Grade of A, B, C, CR or P Previously Earned

By California law, students may not repeat courses in which they have earned grades of A, B, C, CR, or P unless they meet one of the criteria below (check the box that applies to you) (§ 55040(b)(1), § 55041):
A.

A. If the course is needed to meet a legally mandated training requirement as a condition of continued paid or volunteer employment (such as renewing professional certification). Some applicable courses include: AJ 141, POST courses, MA (Medical Assistant), CDEV 102, EMT/FIRE 105 or 107, HE 102. If you are requesting permission to repeat a course for this reason do not use this form. Please use form: Request to Repeat Course Due to Legally Mandated Training Requirement.
B.

B. A significant change in industry or licensure standards since the student previously took the course and the student must take the course again for employment or licensure. Documentation required.
C.

C. A significant lapse of time of at least 3 years has passed since the course was taken and the course must be taken again because of a recency prerequisite requirement on the course by the district or another institution of higher education to which the students seeks to transfer. For instance, students who are applying for admission to the IVC Registered Nursing program must have completed Human Anatomy and Physiology I (BIOL 200) and Human Anatomy (BIOL 204) within the past 10 years; and Microbiology (BIOL 220), Human Physiology (BIOL 206) and Human Anatomy and Physiology II (BIOL 202) within the past 7 years. Documentation required supporting this exception.
D.

D. The previous grade earned was at least in part, the result of extenuating circumstances. By law, extenuating circumstances are verified cases of accidents, illness, or other circumstances beyond the control of the student. Documentation required supporting this exception.
